It's hard enough losing one home. Imagine losing eight. one Cedar Rapids family is desperate to find help and isn't sure where to turn. The problem is, there isn't much available to get them back on their feet.

It's just one home. One home that has shattered Janice Henley's world.

"People quit paying their payments on our contracts and haven't heard from them since," Henley said.

1247 3rd Street NW was sold on contract in 2007, as well as eight other homes. It essentially means the buyers were renting to own the houses from the Henleys, that is, until the flood.

"We've been 18 months, going on 19 months without a payment, she said.

When the water came, the buyers split and took the maximum FEMA assitance with them, and leaving Janice with nothing.

"We found that 28,800 had been given out as damages on this house," she said.

The buyers had only paid off 600 dollars on what they owed before leaving. The same thing has happened at the other homes too.

"We've run out of money," she said.

Janice feels like there are no answers, that she is falling through the cracks as she tries to recover. According to FEMA, only the families living in the homes are eligible for assistance...
