Many Palo neighbors wanted change and on Tuesday they got it. But now some are wondering if what they won is enough.

Scott Packingham goes by the name of "Spider" for obvious reasons. (He has tattoos of spiders all over.) It is the name many circled on their ballots hoping he can spin a different future for Palo after the floods.

Some in Palo feel nothing right now is being done to keep them dry. They say they are flooded out time and time again while the current city council's focus is elsewhere.

Spider says he is baffled how the city can be more concerned about building parks and expanding the town instead of flood prevention.

"A park is not going to make somebody move to a town. To me, what I think they need to do is focus their issues more on storm water issues and flood issues. If you keep the town dry, people will move in, whether you have a park or not," says Spider.

Some neighbors say they think the current city council did the best they could. However, they say they feel as though the council rarely listened to the people of their community.

"Now I am going to be sitting right across from them. So it is going to be hard to ignore me. It is going to be harder for them to just push it off to the side," says Spider.

Spider is one of two new faces to Palo's city council. Tom Sanders is the other. He was a write-in. Spiders and Sanders are outnumbered by three. But Spider points out, two is better than none.A Change In Council

Inmates assaulted officers at prison facility
November 20, 2009 17:36 EST

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) -- The Iowa Department of Corrections is investigating a pair of assaults on officers at its Oakdale Medical and Classification Center near Coralville.

The department reported Friday that the attacks took place on Nov. 15 and are also being investigated by the Coralville Police Department.

Officials say that in one assault, 22-year-old convicted kidnapper and robber Earl Griffin punched a guard in the shoulder and face, harming the guard's teeth and blacking both of his eyes. The attack occurred shortly after Griffin had received his medication in the facility's pill line.

The department says that a short time later, 18-year-old convicted murderer Damion Seats punched another officer in the face and neck.

Both Griffin and Seats have since been transferred to the Iowa State Penitentiary.
