The prosecution wrapped up its case against Michelle Kehoe.
They say Kehoe tried to commit suicide by driving into the Iowa River two years ago.
Experts also talked about evidence on the scene.

It was a gruesome day in the courtroom. The prosecution wrapped up Tuesday morning with testimony from the doctor who performed the autopsy on 2-year-old Seth Kehoe.

"Died of sharp forced object to the neck, Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Dennis Klein testified. His examination concluded the cause of death was homicide.

Jurors were shown horrifying pictures of the 2-year-old's body as the medical examiner described how he came to the conclusion of homicide.

Michelle did look up at the photos; you can see she had a look of disgust on her face and look down quickly.

The prosecution asked the medical examiner whether it could possibly be a suicide or an accident, in which he responded no to both scenarios.

The state rested and now it is the defense's job to prove Michelle Kehoe was legally insane when she killed her son Seth and tried to kill Sean.

She cut her son's neck and her own neck, why does her mental health matter? Because, the defense continued, Because even if it is intended, if it was plannedShe is not liable for crime if she was mentally unstable at that time.

The defense says Kehoe did not have the mental capacity to tell right from wrong at the time of the incident.

Dr. William Morgan testified that Michelle was deeply depressed and suffered post traumatic stress disorder following a possible failed attempted suicide. He said there were conflicting statements made by Kehoe following the October 2008 incident in which she admitted she tried to kill herself and her son's by driving off a bridge in Iowa City, in the middle of winter two years prior.

"She felt tremendously guilty about it," Dr. William Morgan said. "She said she thought about jumping off the parking ramp of the University of Iowa Hospitals where she worked as a pharmacist."

He testified Michelle was sexually abused as a child by her step-father. He also said she tried to kill herself several times. The prosecution argued that this Dr. did not treat Michelle until after the murder of her son and he was repeating what she had told him, not his evaluation of her over years of treatment.

She said maybe her kids would be better off without her," he continued. She began to express that maybe her kids would be better of dead because she didn't want them to inherit depression like her."

She saw killing herself and her two sons the only way out," Dr. Morgan testified.

His diagnosis was that Michelle was deeply depressed and at the time of the incident in Littleton and did not know right from wrong.

The trial will continue Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. The jury will hear from another Doctor who treated Kehoe.

Inmates assaulted officers at prison facility
November 20, 2009 17:36 EST

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) -- The Iowa Department of Corrections is investigating a pair of assaults on officers at its Oakdale Medical and Classification Center near Coralville.

The department reported Friday that the attacks took place on Nov. 15 and are also being investigated by the Coralville Police Department.

Officials say that in one assault, 22-year-old convicted kidnapper and robber Earl Griffin punched a guard in the shoulder and face, harming the guard's teeth and blacking both of his eyes. The attack occurred shortly after Griffin had received his medication in the facility's pill line.

The department says that a short time later, 18-year-old convicted murderer Damion Seats punched another officer in the face and neck.

Both Griffin and Seats have since been transferred to the Iowa State Penitentiary.
