Comment: We are encouraged to send our kids to college to get a great education in hopes that they do better than us. Now, you are going to punish the people that have worked very hard to get where they are to pay for healthcare for people who would rather spend their money on tattoes, booze, and cigs than health insurance. Besides taxing the wealthier....the other reason that we shouldn't have gov't run healthcare is that we have one of the best healthcare systems in the world, even Hillary Clinton when she broke her arm (supposed to go to Russia where there is gov't run healthcare) stayed in the US to receive treatment, why would we want to change it. When it's not broken, don't try to fix it. by Erika

Comment: I think this is another gov't program that will never encourage people to go out and get a job, the program will have the same status as the Welfare programs currently have. We have generations after generations on welfare with no end in sight. This will only make things worse and eventually the whole country will be on welfare and this new healthcare system, what's the motivate to work???? I can send my kids to school for free, eat of the gov't for free, live in gov't housing for free and now get healthcare for free. I have no incentive to get off my ass and get a job. Oh, by the way, my son who makes six figures, now lives overseas to get away from being taxed to death. Eventually the quality of life in the US will go down. by Diane

Comment: As someone whosde living is derived from the insurance industry, I do, believe it or not, support some level of government healtcare. We have had it in a relative form since the advent of Medicare in the 1960s and with VA benefits, which are most certainly warranted for our military personnel. However, I feel that the government plans should be priced as Medicare Part B, in which the rate paid by those participating is based on their income and ability to pay. Those who can afford to should pay. This is not a system in which anyone gets off by paying nothing. I do feel the markets out there do an efficient enough job, but there have been too many instances in which a preexisting condition, minor or major, has prompted a decline from an insurer, and thos individuals end up in the public health system at some point anyway. Why not save some money and establish a sytem of preventive healthcare? Also, I feel there has been too much finger-pointing at the insurance industry as a whole, but what about the extreme costs of healtcare DELIVERY?? by Brent

Comment: Too much taxation and too much strong arming to push this through before all the facts are known by all Americans. This administration seems hell bent on a socialist agenda. by John

Comment: He lied a lot in his campaign. DO NOT BELIEVE HIM VOTE NO by Ronna

Comment: There are other ways to reduce the costs of healthcare and offer coverage to all Americans. Having the government run our healthcare system is not the answer. We need to take small steps and make changes to our current system, not flip it upside-down. by Erica

Comment: No, it's just another way he can tax the people to the point of poverty and make more and more of us rely on the government to live. He's the one who spent the most in the shortest amount of time in the history of the u.s. if he wants to raise money he can sell his book or better yet, call Oprah for a loan. by Jonathon

Comment: Why can't the government just support the free clinics that people need instead of forcing all of the other issues. by Joni

Comment: Congress and all gov employees should have same health plan as all US taxpayers. How will we keep good Doctors???? by Sam

Comment: That would help out a lot of people. by Jamie

Comment: Nothing like the inferior religion of Obamaism.

Comment: Gov't cannot run it as well as private and it will just cause more waste and bigger gov't. by Mark

Comment: the people i know that get govt ins tittle 19 go to the emergency room instead of making a dr appt as it dont cost them anything will be the same with govt insurance by dave

Comment: I had a first hand experiance with Canadian Health care in 2001 and would be happy to Share the details with anyone interested. by Jerry

Comment: for Iowa, who is ranked very for our care her and at the bottom for reimbursement from Medicare, we are the model already on how to provide great care for the majority of our citizens. by Tony

Comment: Government run health care would is a bad idea. by Jeff

Comment: I think that the government should make the current government healthcare system more readily available to those in need instead of forcing those of us that can afford a great plan to pay for it. Also if they do pass this plan it will increase the waiting times when you go and see a physician and decrease the care that you will receive because of the strain on the physicians. Too many problems, too much money! by Crystal

Comment: We don't need a socialist rationed health care system like Canada. Our existing health care system is better than theirs - that's why so many of them come to the US for health care procedures they have to wait for in Canada. We can't afford higher taxes to pay for government health care - taxes are already too high. The government needs to make high deductible health insurance and health savings accounts more attractive for people so people save for future health care costs and take responsibility for themselves instead of relying on government handouts. by Bruce

Comment: OUR CURRENT HEALTH CARE IS BETTER THAN IT WOULD BE IF GOVERNMENT WOULD RUN IT. by MARVIN

Comment: This is a deceiving poll because it suggests that the government is going to take over health care. It will not. It is a public OPTION. You have the choice to continue to be enrolled in your current health insurance plan if you want to. You will also have the choice to opt for a public plan. As for you Republicans and your new-found concern for fiscal responsibility I think that you've forgotten that you lost all credibility when George W. Bush was in office. The man increased the size of government spending exponentially and you didn't say a word. He passed a prescription drug plan that cost hundreds of billions and none of you were asking how it was going to be paid for and you looked the other way when Congress rubber-stamped every spending bill that was brought before it. Where were the Tea-Parties when Bush unveiled TARP? Where were they when he initiated the bailouts of AIG, GM, Goldman Sachs, etc? by Mike

Comment: By phrasing it as "government-run health care," you are feeding into some people's fear of having the government completely control the health care industry in America. In reality, plan supporters have been calling it "public option" with the key word being "option." I work in retail management full time, but if I didn't have that job I wouldn't be able to pay health insurance premiums out of pocket. I'd love to have an option for affordable, competitive health care in case I lose my job. I'd think that in this economy many people would feel the same way. Most people without insurance would love to even have only one choice of doctor to go to--and not have to wait for heart failure to make it in for a checkup. by Libby

Comment: How can guaranteeing everyone health care 'prevent' them from making the same unhealthy lifestyle choices? We are all for affordablity. Correct the current health care system before throwing hard working Americans money to the wind. by Lori

Comment: I believe everyone has the right, not privledge to be covered. Everyone's talking about people who don't work and are on welfare. Do they not realize that most of the people it would help, are the elderly, who worked all their lives for SS but still don't have enough money and have to decide between eating or paying for thier medications because health care is SO EXPENSIVE. If you have money, that's great!!! Why not show some compassion for those who don't. It won't break you. I currently don't have insurance because I can't afford it. I have a 4 year degree, I have no criminal record. I work 2 JOBS. I'm taking a chance every day. I deserve the right to affordable health care coverage. Times are hard, this is one thing people shouldn't have to worry about. People need to also stop being so judgmental and thinking all people who don't have insurance are criminals, jobless and lazy, it's just ignorant. by B

Comment: I think the people who say they want the right to choose their health care forget about the single parents in this country, as well as the many vietnam vets that I know personally that still have trouble getting the health care that they deserve. In my own circumstance, I work full time and try to take care of my daughter on my own. I scrape by, I pay my taxes and unfortunately for me I cannot choose the healthcare I need for my daughter who has asthma and many allergy problems. I get what I can afford to pay for and it is'nt much. I find it completely rude that people in this country say they want the right to choose their healthcare when there are people like me fighting tooth and nail to take care of my child. My daughter's father left, I did'nt make that decision and because I was'nt one of those lucky few that get married and have support, we suffer. There are all kinds of children in this country who don't get the right to choose and I pray that the Obama administration can make their healthcare plan work, because us single mom's need the help!! People who are so blessed as to have a nuclear family are twice as blessed as us single parents and I find it appalling that people want to fight CHANGE!! by Molly

Comment: People who choose to spend their money on tattoos? How irrational, not to mention inhumane, arrogant and an expression of pure proof of ignorance. Only someone who does not know first hand what it is like to work a full time minimum wage job, while attending college full time AND supporting a child AND owning a home AND most importanly NOT relaying on govertment assistance, because she would rather allow others who are less fortunate take use of the help, therefore having no health coverage and just living with the hope to live another day with out a major illness that will drive straight to bankruptcy. I wonder how these people that are trying to deny me a little help feel about money spent in war? I am going to guess they feel its necessary, which only makes this whole thing even more sad. by Just another

Comment: Why are only the comments that go against the reform posted on this website? by J

Comment: Check out the countries that have government-run health care. The care for the patient is inferior to what the US has. What if it was your mother, your baby or your mate regardless of age that had to wait 6 months to get treatment for life threatening ailments. That will happen here. by S

Comment: Some of us need help! by Z

Comment: Look how well the govt. handles the postal service and the VA, for example. by Jeff

Comment: The government doesn't run ANYTHING efficiently, why would health care be any different? Less government equals better government! by Tara

Comment: The government has no business in the health care business. by Cynthia

Comment: Take a look at what they have done with Medicare. by Judy

Comment: we dont need the government telling us what care we can have or not have. this will add even more debt to the mess we are in already. thank you. by Julie

Comment: It will mean rationing of care and actual increased costs as stated by the CBO this week. This will lead to a decrease in quality of care. This is NOT working in other countries and hasn't worked in one of our states, Mass. Keep govt. out of my life and death decisions...especially when I grow old. by David

Comment: Less government is needed; not more. Government is the problem. by Mel

Comment: Stop the spending. Our county,State and Federal governments are out of control. by Robin

Comment: The fewer issues the government is involved in, the better off we'll all be. by Craig

Comment: We have lived in Germany for 13 yeasr and have seen first hand what Government-run health care is like for people of all ages. Our German friends father, in his 80's, had a stroke. The Doctors at the hospital told the family they should have let him die. Our daughter lives and works in Australia. She pays more taxes for her private health care coverage in a year, than most people have paid in a lifetime here stateside. Someone has to pay for those who don't. Get the facts, before you wish for something free. Nothing is free in this world. The price of freedom is the most costly, but if you accept this health care plan, you will wish you hadn't. by Suzanne

Comment: The US has the best healthcare in the world because government has mostly stayed out of it, except for the regulations on insurance companies that have caused increased rates. I think Obama is trying to get this passed before the next wave of housing and commerical real estate crashes. by Brandy

Comment: Government should have no say in health care. Some of the people who don't have health care, choose to spend their money elsewhere. Why should people who save or cut spending to afford their own healthcare pay for others who don't spend wisely? Take care of your selves and don't expect the government to controll everything. by Susan

Comment: Health care is not free. Title 19 is free and it is abused. I work in an Small town ER and see the abuse. I feel there should be a copays for people using title 19. by Jason

Comment: Congress and the President need to fully understand what this is all about before making it a law. by Lenore

Comment: You can't cover the un-insured 47 million and espect to also lower the cost of health care. I work to choose my health care. If it is government run, I won't need or want to work! by Tom

Comment: It's time the Republican money machine was reined in the Insurance Co. and Medical-Pharma has been plundering the public for 20 years the Federal govt. should regulate policy requirements to stop the "cherrypicking of their customers (victims) who pay their premiums until they have an expensive claim ,they are dropped, That is fraud! the officers of the insurance co. should go to jail for that ,but no that's just good business how does this continue, look at the voting record ( of republican's) on (the lack or refusal)to regulate insurance companies practices it's obvious and sorry state of affairs by walt

Comment: The question is framed incorrectly. It implies that the proposed health care reform is "socialized medicine". The reform is supported by health care workers such as doctors and nurses. It is only the insurance companies that are not onboard with the need to improve America's helath care system. Those who want to keep the current system should be fearful or what the current system will cost them ten years from now rather than the spurious arguements such as socialized medicine and loosing your primary physician. If you understand how the current system works you know that everyone is already paying for the uninsured and underinsured through practices like cost shifting. by Lee

Comment: Government is the least efficient way to use money. Health care is not constitutionaly within federal authority.

Comment: We need the government to step in and give the people that have no insurance a choice. With corporations moving our jobs out of the country the number of uninsured people has risen greatly. Maybe they should pay to fund this. by Craig

Comment: I would like to know where these protesters against the Health Care plan work? Are the avid listeners to Rush Limba? Plus are they just plain naive about who is making health care decisions for them now? It's the Health Insurance Corporations and how much profit they can make for their company. And what about Pres. Obama's information "that we still have choice", don't they understand? Have these people ever been without health insurance, what are their incomes? These protesters that complain about goverment being in their business just frustrate the heck of me. While I believe in their freedom of speech, I wish they would think this through, it's just not about them. I am almost sure if they were sick or someone they love sick, they would want the security of health insurance and not go bankrupt in the process. I believe having affordable, no pre-conditions, not being dropped because of health conditions (by having premiums become too expensive), is right up there with the "pursuit of happiness" (security). Doing nothing will cost us much more in the long run unless these people are going to send all the sick and/or dying to another planet. Our population is aging, we need to fix this now. We already know how Wall Street and Banks policed themselves. People are always afraid of change, yet it happens everyday to all of us whether we like it or want it. by Laurie

Comment: The Dems won't be happy until they have totally run this country into the ground - all in the name of socialism and change.

Comment: Two reasons: 1. No one knows for sure everything that's included (Does the Government have the proposed plan on a site that we all can see?) 2. Department of Social Service is government run, and a huge chunk of the alloted money is consumed by the government workers running the program. by Gary

Comment: I am lucky enough to have health insurance, some family members are not. This will help them to get AFFORDABLE health insurance and hopefully reduce my cost for health insurance. by Angi

Comment: The cost will be to high for every one. by Dave

Comment: anyone who has lost there healthcare and have had to purchase private heath insurance should understand how important this is. It does not cover any pre-existing conditions and costs a fortune. Insurance companies are making a lot of money from people who are ill. by Jackie

Comment: They can't even run the government right--I don't want them involved with my health care!

Comment: If Obama doesn't know what all is in the bill, what are the rest of us supposed to think. Are the leaders pusing this, willing to abide and use this same plan? by Sandy

Comment: The government will mess up healthcare. Have you ever had to deal with medicare? There does need to be changes but you should have a dead line that is longer for that change since it is affects everybody in the US. President Obama had a longer deadline for pulling out of Iraq than he did for this piece of legislation. by Joyce

Comment: No to the Health Care Plan that just passed in the House! The idea of passing a bill without working out the details of how to pay for it in a realistic way is unbelievably irresponsible. I do not want those who represent me to be so careless with matters that will affect my life and my childrens lives and the freedom of choice that I hold dear. Goverment involvement should be limited and temporary in all matters. Sincerely, Tracy by Tracy

Comment: If national healh care is so great why do canadian people come here for treatment? by Jim
