Homeowners all over the city are working to fix up their damaged homes and the city has plans to do some work as well.
A new sidewalk for George Schorge and well worth the wait.
"It was 3 years in the making. I don't know if the flood had anything to generate, to get it done any sooner, but it's in and I'm happy," he said.
His is one of 28 properties inside the flood zone on the city's list for sidewalk repairs.
"We're going to keep the place. We're going to stay here," he said. "I think it has a lot of potential to come back."
City engineers want to make sure broken sidewalks are fixed and safe as many flood victims prepare to return. But George's is the only sidewalk fixed so far. City crews have to wait and see what the damage looks like in 25 of those properties to see if it's worth the repair.
If any house is tagged red or purple it's taken off the list. Because homeowners have to pay for much of the repair cost, city engineers say they don't want to pour salt on the wounds of those who have already lost so much.Sidewalk Repairs
