Kernels Trout Promoted to Class High-A
The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that OF Mike Trout has been activated from the temporary inactive list and promoted to Rancho Cucamonga (CAL) and INF Michael Demperio joins the Kernels from double-A Arkansas (TEX). Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the moves on Tuesday.
Trout leaves the Kernels leading the MWL with a .362 average, 45 stolen bases, 113 hits, 76 runs scored and a .454 on-base %. He also led the team with 19 doubles, 46 walks and six home runs. He played in 81 games for the Kernels before his promotion.
The Angels selected Demperio, 22, in the 25th round of the 2009 Free Agent Draft out of the University of Georgia. He played 26 professional games in 2009 between the AZL Angels and Orem, hitting .156 (12-77) with a HR and 4 RBI. In seven games this year at Arkansas, he hit .217 (5-23) with an RBI.
With todays transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with two currently on the disable list.
The Kernels continue a nine-game home stand on Wednesday, July 14th against the Fort Wayne Tincaps at 6:35 pm.
