So what does the city of Cedar Rapids think about these test results?

Tuesday we caught up with a member of city council we thought would be especially interested...

District Three Representative Jerry McGrane.

A flood victim himself, McGrane lives in a FEMA trailer.

CBS2's Robert Price has the councilman's reaction.

"If you haven't gone through it, you don't understand it," says Cedar Rapids City Councilmember Jerry McGrane.

City councilman Jerry McGrane understands what it means to live in FEMA trailer.
For two months now he's called this trailer in Hiawatha home .

"Sometimes been very depressing, but I've been able to keep myself under control."

He says he has no problems with his trailer.
So we showed him the results of our investigation into high formaldehyde levels.
At first he questioned our methods.

"I don't know if you're using the same test equipment that FEMA uses. I don't like to jump to any conclusions and say, ‘hey FEMA's done a bad thing.’"

After we explained the testing was done by an accredited lab, McGrane admitted frustration.

"People just slip through the cracks and I don't know what to do about that...it's sort of frustrating."

Jerry McGrane says living in this FEMA trailer the last couple months has given him a perspective most in city government don't have. It's because of this he calls himself a strong ally of flood victims.

"I can sort of keep them on track about the emotions we have."

McGrane says the last thing flood victims should have to worry about is unsafe living conditions.
And by the end of our conversation, McGrane agreed FEMA should take action.
